International Student Admissions
International students who apply for admission to graduate standing must, in addition to the above requirements, present evidence of financial responsibility and of their ability to communicate effectively in the English language. To demonstrate financial responsibility, the student must have a bank or similar source send a statement certifying that sufficient funds are available for the first year of study.
To prove the ability to use English effectively, the student must achieve a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language given in other countries by the Educational Testing Service. Applicants must consult the department or program of interest to learn the current satisfactory score.
| SEVIS Fee Regulations for International Students
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule to implement a fee to fund the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). This fee will take effect on September 1, 2004 and applies to all F-1 Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors whose forms for initial program status are issued after that date. There has been some discussion about this fee within the University and there will be further discussions to determine the University's policy about this fee payment. In the meantime, decisions about this fee payment will be made on a case-by-case basis. There will be an informational session about the fee requirement in early August for departments which are hosting J-1 Exchange Visitors in the categories of research scholar, professor and short-term scholar. Students are not as likely to be affected, since the implementation date is the beginning date of the Fall semester. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office for International Students and Scholars at 935-5910 or by email at oiss@wustl.edu. |
