- What is the deadline for applying to graduate school?
You may apply at any time and your application will be reviewed for an admission decision. However, to be among the applicants considered for financial support (departmental assistantships) for the incoming fall semester, your application must be received by January 15. Financial support is rarely provided for students entering in the spring semester.
- Can I apply to more than one department?
Yes, you may apply to more than one department you must complete an application for each department.
- Do I need to submit financial certification at the time I submit my application?
You may prefer to wait until an admission and financial aid decision is made by the department before submitting your financial certification. Please remember that we are unable to issue the appropriate documents needed to obtain your student visa without the proper financial certification. For more details on the financial certification needed, please go to our Web site www.engineering.wustl.edu/GraduateAdmissions and under the heading “Other Useful Links,” click on “Graduate School Cost Estimate.”
- Where do I send my supporting documents?
Please go to the Web site www.engineering.wustl.edu/GraduateAdmissions and under the heading “Other Useful Links,” click on “Departmental Addresses” to find the appropriate address to send your supporting documents, such as transcripts, financial certification for foreign students, paper recommendation forms, or other documents that you feel might support your application.
- How can I check the status of supporting documents you need to receive to complete my application?
If you would like to check which of your supporting documents we have received, please go to our Web site www.engineering.wustl.edu/GraduateAdmissions, click on “Apply Online” and log in with your user name and password. At that time, you will be given a status report on transcripts received, recommendations received, and test scores received.
- If I choose to have my request for recommendations sent electronically, what does the recommender receive?
If you have chosen to have us request your recommendations electronically, shortly after you hit “Submit,” we automatically send an e-mail to each recommender with your request. In this e-mail, the person has three options of how to submit the recommendation: first, he or she can click on the link which will connect to a Web version of the recommendation form; second, he or she can hit reply and fill out the recommendation form in the e-mail; or third, he or she can download a paper version. If, after approximately 10 days, the recommender has not responded to the initial e-mail, he or she will be sent a reminder. This is the only reminder that we will send. When we receive a recommendation, we will note that on your record so that you may log in and see the status of your supporting documentation, including recommendations.
- Do I need to take the GRE exam?
All prospective graduate students applying for financial aid must submit scores from the GRE exam. Also, many departments require the GRE exam as part of the total application package. Please go to the Web site www.sever.wustl.edu and click on the appropriate department for further details.
- Will you accept the computerized GRE test score taken prior to October 2002?
We have been notified by the Educational Testing Service that the computer-based GRE test prior to October 2002 in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea has been compromised. Therefore, it will be necessary for you to submit scores from the paper-based GRE test now being given in those countries. For more information on this, please refer to the Educational Testing Service Web site at www.ets.org.
- What university code do I use to have my GRE and TOEFL exam results sent to you?
The code for Washington University in St. Louis is 6929.
- What are the departmental codes for the GRE?
Go to http://www.engineering.wustl.edu/GraduateAdmissions/EngDeptCodes.asp for a complete listing of Engineering Department Codes.
- Can I submit copies of my test scores?
Many departments will accept Xerox copies of GRE or TOEFL scores for evaluation purposes, but official score reports must be received prior to registration.
- Who accredits Washington University?
