Cumulative Minimum Required Units
Requirement: All B.S. degree programs require at least 120 units. Departments may require more than 120 units. See the individual program requirements.
Comments: Virtually all the courses (numbered 100 or higher) offered by Washington University are allowed to count toward fulfillment of the total cumulative units requirement. The exceptions are:
- College of Arts & Sciences
- ECOMP 1001 will not count
- Physical Education courses (L28) will not count.
- Air Science and Military Science courses will not count. If you complete the entire four-year sequence for either Air Science or Military Science, you may count up to 12 units from these courses toward the total required units for your degree program. Note: Although these courses' units and grades appear on your official transcript, the units and grades are not counted and do not appear in the printed cumulative units and cumulative grade-point averages. When your records are checked for completion of degree requirements, and you will have completed an entire sequence, 12 units will be counted towards the total required units for your specific degree program.
- University College (Night school division of Arts & Sciences) courses will not automatically count. These courses are treated as “transfer” courses. We treat these courses the same way we treat courses offered by other institutions (transferability decisions are made on a course-by-course basis). - Technology (Night school division of Engineering & Applied Science) courses will not automatically count. These courses are treated as “transfer” courses. We treat these courses the same way we treat courses offered by other institutions (transferability decisions are made on a course-by-course basis). Consult the School's transfer course database: Technology Courses
- Courses Taken At Other Institutions. Decisions as to the transferability of courses taken elsewhere are made on a course-by-course basis. When the Engineering Registrar completes his evaluation, the course is added to the School's "Evals" database.
- Most Repeated Courses (courses taken more than once at Washington University) do not count. These courses include:
- Courses that show a grade of "R", or
- Courses that have a grade labeled with the symbol "R” ( e.g. "D+ R")
