Financial Assistance & Fellowships

The School of Engineering & Applied Science offers competitive stipends and health insurance for graduate students. It is expected that doctoral students are supported through research and teaching assistantships. The School does not provide financial aid for master's students.

Fellowship & Scholarship Opportunities

This list profiles a portion of the fellowship and scholarship opportunities available to support graduate studies.

Washington University Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship Program
The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship provides support for full-time study leading to the completion of the doctorate in most of Washington University's academic programs.

Washington University Olin Fellowships for Women
Any female graduate or prospective graduate of a baccalaureate institution in the United States who plans to prepare for a career in higher education or the professions is eligible to apply provided she seeks to obtain through full-time study at Washington University the highest degree available in her chosen field.

American Association of University Women
The world's largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women, this program supports women doctoral candidates completing dissertations.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society
Bachelor's and graduate scholarships are available for U.S. citizens American Indian/Alaskan Natives who are pursuing degrees in engineering.

Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association Fellowships
Fellowships of $15,000 each will be awarded to full-time postgraduate students who have earned master's degrees or the equivalent and who are currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program in electrical, electronic, chemical or communications engineering, physics, math, or computer science.

Hertz Foundation
Graduate fellowships from the Hertz Foundation are based on merit for students pursuing doctoral degrees in the applied physical sciences.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
This Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers different scholarship programs for students of various educational backgrounds. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents of Hispanic heritage.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program
Awards approximately 35 scholarships to college seniors or recent graduates to attend graduate programs. The scholarship awards will provide funding for tuition, room and board, books, and other required fees for the length of the graduate degree program, up to six years.

NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program
NASA awards fellowships for graduate study leading to master's or doctoral degrees in science, mathematics or engineering related to NASA research and development.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
NDSEG fellowships are intended for students at or near the beginning of their graduate studies in science or engineering. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

National Science Foundation
National Science Foundation graduate fellowship offers three years of support for advanced study in engineering and the sciences.

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields.

  • Note for Ph.D. Students
    All Ph.D. students need to apply for federal financial assistance through the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Students should visit Danforth University Center, Suite 300 or call (314) 935-6821.
