Know 'Where to Go'

New School of Engineering Staff

On August 12, Marie Kurkey joined the School of Engineering staff as Assistant to the Dean. Marie has more than 20 years of experience, including 17 years as an administrative/executive assistant. She has worked at Washington University for over five years in the Alumni and Development office as the administrative assistant to the director of annual giving programs. Prior to Washington University, Marie worked for Jacobs Facilities (a division of Jacobs Engineering) as the administrative assistant to the manager of the St. Louis office.

Engineering Student Services will welcome Jaydee Amoloza on September 2. Jaydee will serve as the new Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Admissions. She graduated from the School of Engineering with an undergraduate degree in 2001. Previously, Jaydee worked for the University Admissions Office for three years (she was the liaison to the School of Engineering) and most recently worked for the International and Area Studies & Overseas Programs Office.

Amy Sullivan McAllister will join the Engineering Alumni and Development staff as an Associate Director of Development. Since September 2007, Amy has served as a National Appointment Coordinator in the WU Annual Giving Programs. Amy has established many valuable relationships with alumni and friends and set dozens of appointments for University fundraisers. She has helped to restructure the appointment tracking system and she has updated the guidelines on donor/prospect appointment scheduling. Amy will play an integral role in helping the School of Engineering achieve its private funding goals. She will manage a pool of major gift prospects and tackle several projects including Engineering annual fund activities, graduate education fundraising initiatives, and other assignments.

Gabrielle Miller will serve as the Administrative Assistant for the Engineering Alumni and Development staff. Gabrielle was formerly with INTRAV, Inc, a deluxe tour operator. She served as a manager in the client relations and retail sales division and as a coordinator of special accounts. A resident of St. Louis since 1992, Gabrielle was formerly with Town & Tennis Racquet Club and Gladys Mannion Real Estate. In her role as Administrative Assistant, Gabrielle will serve as the office manager for the department.

Barb Laudell is the new Assistant Registrar in Engineering Student Services. Barb started at Washington University in January 2000 as a part-time office assistant in the Office of Student Records and moved to the Law School in July 2000. In the Law School, Barb served as a full-time Assistant Registrar and later as Associate Director of Academic Services.


Engineering Luau

A special "thank you" to Nikki Lemley, Amy Sears and their committee for organizing the Luau Lunch on August 15. Steve Bannes is not only the chili czar, but a master of the grill as well.

Mindy Price, Rose Baxter & Madeline Hawkins Myrna Harbison & Sharon Matlock Faculty and staff enjoyed BBQ and shared recipes for summer desserts and side dishes.

I-64 Construction Updates

Don't get caught in traffic on your way to work. Washington University created a Web site with current I-64 construction information.


Upcoming Events


Cultural Brown Bag Luncheons

All School of Engineering staff members are invited to short film showings and/or discussions on cultural or artistic topics to be scheduled on the first Wednesday of even numbered months.

August topic was "Laughter in the Work Place" and Tom Evola showed a 20 minute Charlie Chaplin film. Tobin Harris and others will show their cinematic talents for the October topic, "Engineering Student Services Staff Video Surprises."
