Designing for Sustainability - A New Course for Spring 2008

The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, has become the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. At WU, the new University Center is being designed for a gold rating and the new engineering buildings are aiming to achieve a platinum rating.

With the architectural and engineering team designing the new engineering buildings acting in a team teaching mode, students in engineering and architecture will have the opportunity to take a course on Designing for Sustainability. The new engineering project will serve as the case study, and students' projects will focus on coming up with LEED innovation points to help the School achieve a LEED platinum rating for its first building. The ideas from the winning project will be incorporated into the design of the new buildings. The students will also have the opportunity to visit gold and platinum LEED certified buildings in the St. Louis area.

For more information, students should contact Engineering Student Services at 935-6100 or in Lopata Hall, Room 303.
