Evening With Industry

Washington University Society of Women Engineers (SWE) hosted seven companies for an all-school new networking initiative, Engineering's first "Evening With Industry."

On September 11, nearly 50 Engineering students met and dined with representatives from Ameren, Anheuser-Busch, Boeing, Burns and McDonnell, Cooper Industries, GE Transportation and General Mills. Following a catered dinner, students visited break-out sessions with company presentations.

"It was an exciting, brand new initiative for them (SWE)," said Sherrie Aach, Business Development Specialist at The Career Center. "From an employer's standpoint, they are always looking for a way of getting closer to the students."

"Evening With Industry" was a unique way for company representatives to interact with students. With positive feedback from the inaugural event, SWE would like to host "Evening With Industry" once a year.

For event logistics and quick connection to potential employers, SWE found support through The Career Center staff. Aach assisted SWE by identifying potential employers to attend while Events Specialist Scott McIntosh guided SWE by providing event logistics expertise.

"I think the success was from the students," said McIntosh. "They were very proactive. They reached out in May to get things started. They did an excellent job in project management."
