Courses, Repeated

In general, if a student repeats a course, only the second enrollment and grade counts, but both enrollments and grades are printed on the student's official transcript. The grade for the first enrollment is changed by adding the symbol "R" after the original grade. Example: A student enrolls in Math 132 and receives a grade of "D." The following semester, the student again enrolls in Math 132, and the second grade received is a "B." This student's transcript will then show two lines for this course:

Fall, 20xx.....          Math 132 3.0           D R

Spring, 20xx            Math 132 3.0           B

After the second grade is entered into the SIS, and after the Engineering Registrar's Office labels the first grade with the symbol "R," the first grade will no longer affect the student’s GPAs.

Some courses may be taken more than once, with each enrollment continuing to count. Such courses are "repeatable."

Examples of repeatable engineering courses are most independent study and many seminar courses. These courses are labeled as "repeatable" in the School's master course database.
