Engineering Summer School 2009

Students, both current and visiting, can enroll in Engineering Summer School courses through the Engineering Summer School Office. Registration begins Wednesday, March 25. Students who register after the first class meeting will be assessed a $50 late fee and may not register after the second class meeting without the instructor's signed approval.

Engineering Summer School Courses
The School of Engineering offers summer school courses in a variety of areas including independent study opportunities. Engineering Technical Writing and Sever Institute of Continuing Studies Courses are also offered during summer months.

Graduate Students

Online registration for Engineering Summer School courses is available through WebSTAC.

Graduate students who are not currently enrolled in any Washington University program must contact the Engineering Summer School Office for course selection, advice, and necessary approval.

Undergraduate Students

Academic Advising

All currently enrolled Washington University students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor before registering for courses to make sure that the courses will apply to their degree program. Those not currently enrolled in any Washington University program are encouraged to seek similar advice from Engineering Student Services when they seek admissions approval.

Web-based Registration for Undergraduate Students

Washington University Engineering undergraduate students and visiting Washington University students should complete the online registration form or a paper registration form in the Summer School Office. Upon completion of the registration form, students will be contacted by an admissions advisor to complete the process.

Registration by Mail or In-Person

Washington University Engineering undergraduate students and visiting Washington University students may complete the "Registration for Summer School" form. Students should mail or deliver the form to the Engineering Summer School Office, accompanied by a payment if appropriate (see "Tuition and Fees" section).

Tuition Rates

Part-time graduate students: $1280 per unit, 1-8 units
Full-time graduate students: $1508 per unit

Undergraduate Courses in Information Management:
$450 per unit for 100-299 level courses
$500 per unit for 300-499 level courses

Undergraduate Students

For financial assistance and questions, undergraduate students should contact the Office of Student Financial Services between 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Graduate Students

For financial assistance and questions, graduate students should contact the Engineering Accounting Office between 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Financial assistance applications usually take at least six to eight weeks to be processed.

Payment Methods

Most registrations must be accompanied by full payment. Methods of payment include personal check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, money order, cashier's check, traveler's check, and cash. All checks should be made payable to Washington University.

Students owing monies to Washington University will not be allowed to register. Nonpayment of tuition and other expenses will be cause for exclusion of classes, refusal of graduation, refusal of future registration, and/or refusal of transfer of credit. A $25 fee is assessed to any student whose check is not honored for payment.

Note: Washington University graduate students will receive monthly bills for summer tuition and fees.

Employer Payments

If an employer agrees to pay all or a portion of the student's tuition, a letter or copy of the company's tuition reimbursement policy verifying the employer's responsibility must be presented at the time of registration. The student must complete the "Authorization to Register" form. Additional copies of the form are available for download at engineering.wustl.edu/summer school.

Embassy Payments

If payment is to be made by an embassy, the student must submit a copy of a letter of certification from the embassy at the time of registration.

Refunds

If a student withdraws from a class, a withdrawal form is required. Students should contact the Engineering Summer School Office to ensure the maximum refund.

Withdrawal within 24 hours after first class: Full refund less $25 registration fee
After the second class meeting: 75% tuition refund
After first quarter of the session: 50% tuition refund
After first half of the session: 25% tuition refund
After third quarter of the session: no refund

Course Cancellations & Changes

The University reserves the right to withdraw any course with insufficient enrollment, to change instructors or classrooms, or to modify courses as necessary. If a class is canceled, a full refund will be made to the student.

Grades & Transcripts

Students may choose to take classes for a letter grade, pass/fail, or an audit. Changes can be made from one option to another through the first half of the course by submitting a Summer Course Change Form available in Lopata Hall, Room 204. Students withdrawing after the third class period will receive a "W" on their transcript.

Transcripts may be ordered online, by mail, or in person from the Office of Student Records.

Graduation (August 2009)

Students scheduled to receive their degrees or certificates after completing the summer semester must file a Statement of Intent to Graduate on WebSTAC by June 29, 2009. Degrees will not be conferred until October. Diplomas will be mailed to the student's permanent mailing address in late October.
