Computer Science & Engineering

Computing and computer communication drive innovation in science and medicine, business and industry, media and entertainment. Our computer science and computer engineering programs are flexible; provide extensive hands-on project experience; and offer a wide range of opportunities for interdisciplinary study, research, internships and international study.

Projects current undergraduates are working on with our faculty include:

  • hardware and software systems that help us understand the world and improve health and quality of life
  • sequencing the human genome
  • "virtual presence" technologies to allow people to interact remotely in all parts of the world as if they were in the same location

Such innovations have the potential to improve productivity, reduce the need for physical travel, limit energy consumption, improve cultural understanding, provide telemedicine to developing countries and allow people to work where their physical presence would be too difficult or dangerous.
