Financial Assistance & Scholarships

We have a long tradition of working individually with the families of our students to customize a financial aid award that ensures cost does not stand in the way of a Washington University education. About 60 percent of undergraduates receive financial assistance. A typical financial assistance award may include a combination of scholarships, federal grants, student loans, and part-time employment.

The University annually awards nearly $64 million in undergraduate scholarships. Students who receive financial assistance come from a broad range of economic backgrounds. Washington University is working to eliminate need-based loans as part of its undergraduate financial aid awards to students from low- and middle-income families.

This new initiative, and its goal of helping families with the most need, will not lessen our desire, responsibility, or ability to work with all of our families to ensure they have the financial resources they need. We remain committed to a flexible and independent approach to delivering financial aid to those who need it most.

Harold P. Brown Engineering Fellowship
The Harold P. Brown Engineering Fellowship is awarded based on merit and not on financial need. Each year, one Dual Degree Program applicant is awarded a full-tuition Brown Fellowship. Several additional finalists will receive Brown fellowships which cover half-tuition. Selection criteria include academic record, essay, faculty recommendations, extracurricular activities, and demonstrated potential for professional achievement in engineering.

Brown Fellowship applications are due March 15.
