Biography

Professor Singamaneni joined the Washington University in St. Louis faculty in January 2010. From 2006 to 2009, he was a graduate research assistant in Professor Vladimir V. Tsukruk’s lab.

He is recipient of the Best-Poster Award at the spring 2007 Materials Research Society (MRS) national meeting, and the fall 2008 MRS graduate student Gold Award. Professor Singamaneni also received the departmental creative and scholarly award at Western Michigan University in 2004.

Professor Singamaneni has co-authored over 40 refereed articles in archival journals, three invited reviews, and two book chapters.

Research

Professor Singamaneni’s research interests are focused at the intersection of organic (especially polymeric) and inorganic nanostructured materials. Specific research interests include:

Nanoscale confinement effects on the thermo-mechanical and responsive properties of polymer thin films, polymer nanocomposites and 2D and 3D periodic polymer structures

Responsive organic/inorganic hybrids for applications in chemical and biological sensors, tissue engineering, and drug delivery

Assembly of nanostructured inorganic materials (metal nanostructures, quantum dots, semi-conducting nanowires) into functional superstructures using self-assembling properties of organic materials (block copolymers, micelles, amphiphilic molecules). Special interests include the assembly of metal nanostructures for realizing uniform, reliable surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates with large enhancement factors and novel approaches for micro and nanopatterning of functional polymers.
