Transfer Course Credit

Before enrolling in courses at another college or university, students should determine if the course fulfills an Engineering bachelor’s degree requirement.

Please keep in mind that no university is required to accept transfer credit from another institution. If students follow the approval process listed below, preapproved transfer credit will be accepted. All required support documentation must be included with the Course Evaluation Request Form (Word). Courses offered online and experiential learning credit are not accepted as transfer credit.

Transfer Course Approval Process

Step 1. Engineering Student Services maintains course evaluation decisions from past years on the Outside Course Evaluation Database. Click on the first letter of the name of the college or university to find the list of previously evaluated courses. If the identical course has been evaluated as equivalent to a WashU course, you do not need additional authorization to take the course; go to Step 3.

Step 2. If a course of interest to you is NOT in the database, then it has not yet been evaluated. You may request an evaluation through Engineering Student Services. We will notify you of the decision by email, and the course will be added to the database. The evaluation process varies by the type of course you plan to take. The information required for review is listed below. The course review process will take several weeks to complete. If you submit your material by April 1, you should get an answer by May 1. If you submit your request after April 1, you will get an answer by June 1. May is a busy month for most offices, with the determination of final grades and Commencement.
