The National Science Foundation (NSF) has added a newly formed collaboration between Washington University and the University of Pennsylvania to its list of Science and Technology Centers. The efforts will be supported by a $23.6 million grant.

Construction for the new home of the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science, Henry A. and Elvira H. Jubel Hall, will begin in 2017.
Faculty team awarded $1.25 million to study 'swimming cells'
A team from Washington University, comprised of engineering faculty and faculty from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will study how tiny organelles work in the body.
New materials could be used as a detection agent for explosives or for chemicals that could be used in a biological attack.
