Tao Ju, vice dean for research and professor of computer science & engineering, has received a three-year, $264,147 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop efficient computational methods for automated analysis of the architecture of the roots of plants from 3-D images. Ju will collaborate with Christopher Topp from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and David M. Letscher from Saint Louis University. The team plans to design algorithms as well as a graphical software that would offer a fast and interactive way to inspect and edit the results produced by the algorithms.
