Sastry given the Hind Rattan Award

Shankar Sastry has been awarded the Hind Rattan Award from the NRI Welfare Society of India.

The award, which translates to “Jewel of India” in English, is given by India’s president to nonresident Indians who have made exceptional contributions to society. About 25-30 recipients from around the world are selected each year. The award is granted at the society’s annual congress, attended by senior members of India’s government and the Supreme Court of India.

Sastry is the Christopher I. Byrnes Professor of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science.
