There are various ways to share Kaltura videos with other instructors, instructional assistants, and colleagues. This guide walks you through three methods depending on the level of collaboration you desire.

Method 1: Sharing URLs

  1. Log into your Canvas course page. Select the “Kaltura My Media” option in the left-hand navigation column. Locate the video you want to share.
  2. Click on the thumbnail of the video you want to share.
  3. After clicking the thumbnail, you should be directed to the “Kaltura Capture Recording” page. Locate the “Share” tab. Click on it.
  4. After clicking the “Share” tab, new embedding features should appear. In particular, note the html populating the textbox under the “Embed” option. Nested within the second set of quotation marks, you’ll find the URL for the specified Kaltura video. Copy the URL and share it with your collaborator.
  5. Your collaborator can now click on the shared URL. They will be directed to a webpage wherein they can view the video. Using this method, your collaborator can share the video link with others, but they cannot edit the video.

Method 2: Sharing within Canvas/Kaltura

  1. Log into your Canvas course page. Select the “Kaltura My Media” option in the left-hand navigation column. Locate video you want to share.
  2. Click on the “Pencil” icon associated with the video you want to share.
  3. After clicking the “Pencil” icon, you should be directed to the “Kaltura Video Editing” page. Locate the “Collaboration” tab running below the video frame. Click on it.
  4. Once you have clicked on the “Collaboration” tab, new options will appear. With these options, you can change the media owner should you want to relinquish all ownership of the video. Additionally, you can transfer ownership to another colleague within the WUSTL system.
  5. By clicking the “+Add Collaborator” button, you can also add media collaborators. Enter the WUSTL email address and select your desired permissions.

    • Co-editors can edit the entry's details and metadata, trim media, replace media, edit captions, edit chapters and edit slides. Co-editors cannot delete media or add new co-editors and co-publishers. Co-editors can see the analytics page for the media they co-edit.
    • Co-publishers can publish media to their entitled Categories or Channels.
    • Co-viewers are only able to view media and do not have editing permissions, nor are they allowed to view unlisted entries, unless they are also co-publishers or co-editors of that entry.
  1. Click on the “Add” button.
  2. Now your collaborator can view your video on their “Kaltura My Media” within Canvas.

Method 3: mp4 Downloads

Once there, locate the “Download Video” icon. It appears twice on the page: once in the upper right-hand corner of the video player and once in the toolbar below the video play. Click either to commence download.
