Research

Fanwei Kong's research focuses on machine learning and computational methods to create digital twins of patients’ hearts and enable personalized virtual intervention planning and treatment outcome prediction. Specifically, she focuses on computer vision and scientific machine learning methods to construct computer models of the heart from patient images and estimate patient-specific cardiac mechanics. She is also interested in applying these methods to cardiovascular disease diagnosis and risk predictions.

Biography

Fanwei Kong will join the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University in St. Louis in Jan 2025. Prior to this, she completed her postdoctoral training in the Department of Pediatrics (Cardiology) and the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford University, advised by Prof. Alison Marsden. She obtained her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley, advised by Prof. Shawn Shadden. She worked as an algorithm consultant for medical device startup EnChannel Medical Inc. in 2022 and as a research intern with Intuitive Surgical in 2021.
