Research

Professor Kamilov’s research focuses on computational imaging, computer vision, machine learning and optimization. He develops new algorithms and mathematical insights for biomedical and scientific applications. Key applications include magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, optical microscopy, computational photography and remote sensing.

Biography 

Ulugbek Kamilov joined Washington University in St. Louis in 2017 from Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, where he was a research scientist. He obtained his PhD in 2015 from the EPFL, Switzerland. He was an exchange student at Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, a visiting student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010, and a visiting student researcher at Stanford University in 2013.

Professor Kamilov is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and the IEEE Signal Processing Society’s 2017 Best Paper Award. He was among 55 early-career researchers in the U.S. selected as a Fellow for the Scialog initiative on “Advancing Bioimaging" in 2021. His PhD thesis was selected as a finalist for the EPFL Doctorate Award in 2016. He is a senior member of the editorial board of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine and a member of Bio Imaging and Signal Processing (BISP) Technical Committee of IEEE Signal Processing Society.
