Requirements

  1. Interested students must complete an application to an eligible PhD program (below) by December 15, the program deadline for all PhD programs.
  2. Interested students must also submit a short essay on the following: The McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis set a strategic vision in 2017 for Leadership Through Excellence. One of the objectives of that plan is to develop world-class researchers. Please provide an essay (400-600 words) describing how the research you wish to pursue will influence the research community of the future and why WashU is the place for you to pursue that research. This essay should be emailed to engineeringgradadmissions@wustl.edu by the program deadline to which you are applying.

Eligibility

  • Full-time undergraduate student or master’s degree student at any of the universities listed above
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for fall enrollment
  • Applying to an eligible PhD program (listed above)

Financial details

  • Full tuition waiver
  • Monthly stipend for the duration of the PhD program as long as academic progress is being made
  • Awardee will receive a one-time award of $5,000 USD at the start of the PhD program, and $500 per year for 5 years which can be used for professional development activities
